A young Tokyo based company called Sanrio had asked designer, Ikuko Shimizu, to create a cartoon character that would be appealing to the preteen in everyone. On November 1st, 1974, Hello Kitty was born with the first image introduced as a white cat, wearing a red bow and blue overalls.The first merchandise ever produced was a small plastic wallet, released in 1975.

Hello Kitty's hobby includes traveling, music, reading, and eating yummy cookies her sister bakes. She loves making new friends because she believes that "you can never have too many friends."
